Barton Civic Society Guided Walk: The Trees of Barton
Meet at junction of Beretun Green and Bowmandale
Some Interesting Trees around Barton. Former Landscape Contractor, Andrew Robinson, will look at several interesting or unusual trees at several locations around the town on this walk, which is expected to take around 60 – 75 minutes.

Barton Civic Society Guided Walk: Barton’s Brick Barons
Meet at junction of Maltkiln Lane and Waterside Road.
In the Victorian heyday of the industry there were 15 different Brick and Tile Works in Barton alone, as well as several others in South Ferriby, Barrow and New Holland. Unlike in some of the neighbouring parishes, however, most of the Barton works were owned by local businessmen, many of whom built impressive houses for their own occupation around the town to show off their wares. This walk will give a brief outline of the industry, as well as looking at several of these homes, finishing up on Westfield Road, from where the sites of several of these yards can be seen. This walk is expected to take around 75 minutes.

Barton Civic Society Guided Walk: Waterside Road.
Meet at junction of Maltkiln Lane and Waterside Road
The area of Waterside Road once formed a separate community within the town, with its own industries, churches, schools and shops, earning its living either from the Humber Estuary or from the many industries once operating alongside it. Andrew Robinson will lead this walk, pointing out many of the former features in the area, and explaining some of its heritage. The walk is relatively short and is expected to take 60-75 minutes, ending at The Point on the Humber Bank.

Step back to 1086 and uncover the story of Barton upon Humber through the pages of the Domesday Book. Join Neil Wilkyn as he explores the remarkable survey commissioned by William the Conqueror, revealing why it was created and what it can tell us about medieval England. Then delve into Barton’s own Domesday entries to discover what they reveal about the town’s landscape, its people, and everyday life nearly a thousand years ago.

Meet at the Wilderspin School Museum
Discover the rich history and heritage of Barton upon Humber on a circular guided walk, beginning and ending at the Wilderspin National School Museum. Stroll through the town’s historic streets, uncover stories from centuries past, and discover how the people, places, and industries of Barton have shaped the community we know today. Along the way, your guide will bring the town’s fascinating past to life, revealing the everyday histories hidden in its buildings, streets, and landmarks.
To allow time to fully explore the route and its many stories, the walk is divided into two parts and takes place over two days.
