SUMMARY:Guided Walk: Barton’s Brick Barons
DESCRIPTION:In the Victorian heyday of the industry there were 15 different Brick and Tile Works in Barton alone\, as well as several others in South Ferriby\, Barrow and New Holland. Unlike in some of the neighbouring parishes\, however\, most of the Barton works were owned by local businessmen\, many of whom built impressive houses for their own occupation around the town to show off their wares. This walk will give a brief outline of the industry\, as well as looking at several of these homes\, finishing up on Westfield Road\, from where the sites of several of these yards can be seen. This walk is expected to take around 75 minutes.
